Becoming more health literate

Did you know that over 50% of the Irish population are affected in some way by literacy difficulties?

In 2008 the MSD and NALA Health Literacy Initiative launched three key questions which will be helpful to anyone faced with a consultation with a healthcare professional.

Ask Me 3 is an international campaign that developed a simple set of questions that everyone should ask in consultation with their healthcare professional. These questions are designed to increase a person’s ability to understand, ask questions and act upon health information.

Every time you talk with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist, remember to ask these questions:

What is my main problem?
What do I need to do?
Why is it important for me to do this?
